Here’s a really nice Butz Choquin Parade Four Square Billiard shape 1597 dresses in a smooth, natural / virgin finish and it looks great with the nice grain that is placed perfectly for this pipe.

Likely vintage though it’s hard to say for sure, the pipe appears in all respects to be unsmoked. The person I bought it from, a very well known hobbyist thought it was unsmoked as well but couldn’t be 100%. This happens on rare occasion as a bit of darkening happens from reaming friction or a removed bowl coating etc. Looking at the chamber, the airway etc, it appears to me to be unsmoked. If it has been smoked, it’s once and for a moment at that. I’d be extremely impressed if it was smoked and cleaned like this.

The combo worked much to this pipes benefit with the grain pattern and shaping. In this case, there is nice cross-grain up the center, top and bottom with the side panels of the bowl and shank showing off tightly grouped, nice Birds Eye grain. I haven’t seen it work out so well on a 4 Square like this. It’s usually seen when done on purpose with very high end artisan pipes like the Blowfish shape. I love the cross grain on the rim too. The pipe sports an unfiltered vulcanite stem with the BC insert on the side and it seats firmly. It should be a very comfortable smoker with a saddle stem and weight of just under 1 1/2 ounces.

I prepare all pipes before shipping. This BC, even though likely unsmoked, was carefully buffed to remove any oils, dust and old wax as well as bring back the original stain and shine. I applied a couple coats of fresh carnauba wax and hand buffed it until it felt just right. Obsidian Stem Oil and its UV block was applied to the stem as well to slow down any future oxidation. It’s ready to smoke like all of my pipes. - Pete

PACKAGING:

I’m sure I take more time than almost everyone in packaging and I do not spare any expense. Each pipe takes me 10-15 minutes to pack. I’ve yet to hear of any pipe arrive damaged. With few exceptions, my pipes are always shipped as one piece. It requires larger boxes and more materials but the most famous pipe makers insist it’s better during shipping for climate acclimation and not having pipes apart for too long.

At a minimum, I do everything possible to make sure the pipe is at its best and packaged well. All pipes are carefully inspected, cleaned, gently buffed, waxed with Carnauba and the stems are hand polished and oiled as needed. For a decade, I’ve put all I have into these pipes, packaging and more. I really enjoy it and my fellow hobbyists.
