Santa leans in to two children and a teddy bear, all scarves and mittens against a deep blue-green ground. The painting is by Robert Sauber and his signature is reproduced in the backstamp. The rim is moulded with holly leaves and berries in white relief and finished with a 22K gold band, with CHRISTMAS 1999 lettered in gold along the bottom.
The back reads in full: Santa’s Tender Moment, 1999 Christmas Plate by Robert Sauber, porcelain trimmed with 22K gold, represented exclusively by Vicki Morgan Associates N.Y., over the Avon 1999 Collection mark.
Condition & Details
Sound. Photographed front, back and against a tape, I found no chips, no cracks, no crazing and no restoration.
Size: about 8 in across, tape shown in photo 3.
The 22K gold band is unbroken right round and the gold lettering is complete, which is where these usually show their age first.
Marked decorative, not for food — the back says not for food use, may poison food. Stand it or hang it; do not eat off it.
