Authentic Nosaku Kanazawa Lacquerware "Chubachi" Bowl - 5 7/8" Ribbed Urushi - NIB
Item Overview
Up for sale is a stunning, unused example of traditional Japanese Kanazawa Shikki (lacquerware) from the historic Nosaku workshop. Founded in 1780 (An'ei 9), Nosaku is a pillar of the Kaga-Hyakumangoku cultural legacy.
This is a Chubachi (medium-large multi-purpose bowl). It features a deep, high-gloss black Urushi (natural lacquer) interior and a sophisticated "Sensan-maki" (ribbed) red lacquer exterior. This textured finish provides an excellent grip and showcases the depth of the hand-applied lacquer.

Why This Size Matters
At 5 7/8 inches, this bowl is significantly larger and more versatile than a standard 4-inch miso soup bowl. In a Japanese home, this size is prized for:
• Donburi: Rice bowls topped with fish, meat, or vegetables.
• Nimono: Serving simmered side dishes for the center of the table.
• Hearty Soups: Ideal for larger portions like Tonjiru (pork soup) or Udon.
• Western Use: It is the perfect size for a high-end cereal or salad bowl.
Provenance Note
The hand-written katakana mark "フ" (fu) on the paperwork is an internal inventory code from the Nosaku gallery in Japan. This indicates the bowl was a curated item from their physical boutique rather than a mass-market export.
