These very cool bookends almost certainly the work of Salvdor Teran's workshop, with his distinctive combination of mosaic and metalworking with a mid-century vibe.
Teran began his studies under William Spratling in the 1930s before joining his cousins in the Los Castillo workshop in Taxco, Mexico working there for more than a decade before striking out on his own in the early 1950s, opening his own shop in Mexico City.
These bookends made a journey halfway around the world to Israel in the late 1950s - 1960s, as the remnants of the purchase tax label attest. The bookends are otherwise unmarked. They measure 5-1/2" high x 3-3/4" across x 4" deep and the pair weigh 10-1/2 ounces.
