This unusual vessel has a distinctive rounded rectangular form, with a gently rounded top and bottom rather than the more familiar spherical Mata Ortiz shape.
The surface is decorated in a dramatic combination of warm terracotta orange and charcoal gray, with repeating elongated geometric forms extending around the body and a complementary geometric pattern around the top.
The clean geometric decoration and unusual silhouette give this piece a particularly modern appearance while retaining the hand crafted character of Mata Ortiz pottery.

Signed Armando Silveira Jr. to the underside. He works in the Porvenir barrio and is a nephew of Tavo and Lila Silveira; his father was among the village\'s pioneer potters. Contemporary, circa 2000–2015.
