RARE fully patinated antique hand carvedAmberCPF Meerschaum Pipe having excellent quality display features:

▪ Entirepipe & carved figural retain a lux, glossy smooth finish display & feel

▪ Includung a voluptuous, rubinesque reclining female nude w/long, flowing hair

▪ Beautifully carved design details from her pleasing face, hair, full figure, legs, feet & toes - terrific display piece !

▪ Nude body is strategically positioned below bowl, allowing finger's to grasp the smooth finish bowl from within her ample curves

▪ Uniquely carved bowl resembles a natural display of leaves, petals or other botanical

▪Finely aged colors display throughout the semi-opaque areas, from deep cognac to a warm honey-to-ambercoloring, having a finely developed,naturallyaged patina

Unsure of exact type of carved wood; likely fine Algerian Briar w/a clear laquer finish. Amber opaque color stem is likely Bakelite also retaining a nice smooth sheen throughout, as shown. Clean bowl too; no abuse observed on close exam.

Original amber stem plus original grey velvet fitted case displays gilt hallmark crest; appears to read "CPF" above "Best Make" above a giltbanner.

▪ Pipe - 6.5" long x 2" across widest point

▪ Case - 8" long x 2.25" across widest point

An exceptional collectible example of turn-of-the-century figural carving — highly desirable subject matter and rare, untouched, original surface colors on all.
Condition - Overall Very FineOnly slightest wear to mouthpiece tip. Case exterior leather has obvious wear, as seen, however draws significant charm. Some minor brown discoloration exists inside case side where mouthpiece rests, confined to a 1/2" at top. Have not attempted to clean. Bowl looks clean as-for having past use; we have not tested pipe. Sold as seen, as-is Pipe has been well stored for decades, unused.

"I have not found any clear history of CPF, but I have developed some ideas about them, based upon my study of early American made pipes. By the turn of the last century, a number of small pipe making factories had collected in and around New York City, including the William Demuth Company (WDC) and Kaufman Brothers and Bondi (KB&B), later to become Kaywoodie. From the design and quality of execution of these pipes, I believe the factories must have been staffed by European immigrants, probably Jewish, who had been trained in the older traditions of pipe making in France, Germany and Austria. The pipes they produced were in a similar style. ▶️They were expertly cut from very old, air-cured Algerian briar in classical shapes or from the finest grade of Turkish meerschaum; they sometimes rather small; they often had amber or bakelite mouthpieces, gold or silver fittings. It's my suspicion that pipes from these small makers were at one time sold or marketed under the name "Consolidated Pipe Factory." Alternatively, CPF may have been the name of the distributor."
