The Palla is a square piece of cardboardcovered with white linen. It is used in the Eucharistic celebration to coverthe chalice, preventing insects or dirt from falling into the Holy Blood ofChrist.
When covering the chalice before the Eucharist, thepalla lies on top of the chalice cloth and the paten with the (unconsecrated)host, but underneath the chalice veil and the bursa.
