Antique White Mountain Junior Ice Cream Freezer – Early Model – Working
Offered is an antique White Mountain Junior miniature hand-crank ice cream freezer, believed to be an early-production example dating to the early 20th century.
Photos are of the actual item being offered. You will receive the exact ice cream freezer pictured; stock photos are not used.
HISTORY & IDENTIFICATION
The White Mountain Junior has a long history. Period catalog records establish that the Junior was commercially available by 1916, and examples are associated with the early decades of the 20th century.
The Junior was a miniature, functional ice cream freezer, sometimes described by collectors as a “salesman sample.” However, these were also commercially marketed products, rather than necessarily being made exclusively for traveling salesmen.
The White Mountain Junior name was also used on later versions, including examples associated with a reported revival around the 1980s. Those later boxed models commonly feature flat metal barrel bands, brighter plated hardware, and different labels and packaging.
This particular example appears to be an earlier version, distinguished by its round wire-style metal retaining hoops, aged cast-metal mechanism, traditional wooden stave construction, and remnants of an older-style paper label.
Its construction and appearance are consistent with an early-20th-century example, potentially from the 1910s–1930s, although the exact manufacturing date has not been independently established.
APPROXIMATE DIMENSIONS
* Height: 7½ inches, measured to the highest point of the crank mechanism.
* Width: 5 inches across.
CONDITION & OPERATION
This antique ice cream freezer displays authentic age-related wear and patina consistent with its apparent age.
The wooden bucket retains its aged appearance, including finish wear, discoloration, and remnants of its original paper label. The cast-metal mechanism and other metal components show oxidation, surface rust, and age-related wear.
The round metal retaining hoops are somewhat loose but can be positioned properly and remain in place.
The bottom retainer that positions the metal freezing canister appears to be a later, handmade replacement fashioned from joined metal washers. It fits and performs its intended function.
The ice cream freezer appears otherwise complete and includes:
* Wooden stave bucket with round metal retaining hoops
* Removable metal freezing canister
* Internal dasher and paddle assembly
* Removable geared drive component
* Cast-metal hand-crank assembly marked “White Mountain Junior”
The hand-crank mechanism has been tested and operates properly. The gearing turns the internal components as intended, and the replacement bottom retainer functions correctly.
The freezer has not been tested for actual ice cream production or food safety and is offered as an antique collectible.
A demonstration video accompanies this listing, showing the various components and operation of the mechanism.
COLLECTOR APPEAL
An interesting surviving example of an early White Mountain Junior ice cream freezer, with distinctive older-style construction and authentic aged character.
Particularly appealing to collectors of antique kitchen equipment, early American household appliances, miniature machinery, White Mountain memorabilia, and salesman-sample-style collectibles.
Unlike later boxed Junior models with flat metal bands and bright plated components, this example retains the traditional round-hoop construction associated with earlier versions.
Please carefully review all photographs and the demonstration video, as they form an important part of the condition description.
