This is a nearly complete, highly prized Walden-Worcester "No. 21" Mechanics' Socket Set from roughly 1920–1924.
In the early 1920s, Walden sold this specific combination of nine machined hex sockets as a standard heavy-duty service kit for professional auto mechanics. This specific group of sizes was designed for auto mechanics. Sockets like the #225 (25/32"), #230 (15/16"), and #231 (31/32") were explicitly included in 1920s kits because they perfectly fit the specialized main bearing bolts, cylinder head cap screws, and rear axle nuts used by Ford, Chevrolet, and Buick at the time.The set includes these sockets:#214: 7/16"#216: 1/2"#220: 5/8"#224: 3/4"#225: 25/32"#230: 15/16"#231: 31/32"#232: 1"#240: 1-1/4"The set does NOT includethe original metal or wooden storage box, or any of the drive handles/ratchets that came with it.
