Antique Victorian Vitrine Glass Jewelry Casket Trinkit Box Silk Cushion c1900 For Sale

Small vitrine jewel casket in Victorian taste, with five deeply beveled glass panels set into a patinated copper/bronzed frame. Metal teeth glass retainers, cast hollow ball feet, substantial hinge and small catch-latch. Inside, a pink/peach-colored silk cushion is framed by an elaborate looped gimp braid and in good shape. Overall the box is in very presentable condition and has not been conserved or restored. The glass is free of chips, latch and hinge work nicely, dark patina is very pretty and the form is well executed.

Approximately 2 1/4" square overall. The glass casket form and decorative fittings are characteristic of work made around the turn of the 20th century.

• Good antique condition. Glass has light pitting/wear, very tiny fleabites on some of the bevels but not chips, nominal play in the glass seating as with most of these.
• The lid seats squarely and snaps closed securely. They didn't skimp on the hinge on this one, it's sized for something even larger and works great, holds the lid open without added support.
• The silk-covered cushion and its looped braid remain presentable. The base insert sits properly but is loose and unsecured; it does not fall through when turned correctly, but it's not a super tight fit. There's some paint loss on the under-side which hasn't been conserved.
• One lower frame bar has a very slight bow. The box is generally square, with minor irregularity, metal pitting, oxidation, and a small amount of verdigris consistent with age.
• Gently wiped down only. No polishing or restoration. Glass has been cleaned and is free of fingerprints.

The box will be wrapped in archival tissue, with the interior and loose base insert supported, then protected with heavy-duty foam and packed in an oversized reinforced box for safe travel.
