Antique Tunbridge Ware Box Parquetry Inlay Jewelry Sewing Chest No Key Large 16"
Up for sale is a stunning Victorian decorative work box featuring intricate, multi-layered geometric parquetry banding. Highly characteristic of traditional English Tunbridge Ware or premium Victorian cabinetry woodwork, this exquisite piece makes a perfect jewelry chest, heirloom storage container, or parlor display piece.
This item is in good overall condition with wear consistent with age and previous use. The parquetry inlay borders are intact with only minor expected surface wear. There are chips on the corners of the lid. There is loss of color on the bottom and some minor gouges in the wood. There is some warping on the back panels. These imperfections do not compromise the integrity of the box. There are also a few white specks that could be paint transfer on the outside of the box.
The inside looks like it has a cedar plank bottom that split at some point. There is a 2nd piece of wood covering the inside bottom that is removable. This chest has a turn-key lock, however there is no key included. The lid opens and closes but the hooks can get lightly stuck in the lock so you have to pull it from both corners to open it.
The decorative floral fabric lining is tightly fitted, vibrant, and shows no tearing. It is framed with a gold colored border.
It measures approximately 16 inches long, 10.5 inches wide and 6.25 inches tall.
