Antique T&V Limoges France Porcelain Fraternal Shaving Mug For Sale

T&V Limoges France Porcelain Fraternal Shaving mug from about 1910. Shaving mugs were used in the late 1890’s to the early 1900’s. This was a way to control hygiene practices since clients personalized shaving things were kept in them on the barbers shelf. They would buy a mug (this one happens to be Limoges from France) and have their name put on it. Some would put traits, hobbies or occupations on them. This particular one was owned by H. Hampton. He was a member of a Fraternal Lodge called Improved Order of Red Men (hence the Indian Chief) and which stood for Freedom, Friendship and Charity (hence the coat of arms). It was a non-profit fraternal organization devoted to inspiring a greater love for the United States and principles of American Liberty. TOTE stands for Totem of the Eagle. They supported various charitable youth and educational programs. They were chartered by US Congress and were even supported by Teddy and Franklin Roosevelt who were members. This mug is over 100 years old and does have some wear on the gold trim. The name and paintings are in excellent condition. These mugs are highly collectible.
