Up for sale/sale is a beautiful, authentic piece of American country folk art pottery. This antique utility pitcher stands approximately 7 inches tall and features a wonderful, mottled spongeware (or spatterware) pattern.
Unlike more common monochrome pieces, this pitcher showcases a scarcer "two-color" design, blending rich cobalt blue with subtle olive-green dabs over a warm cream earthenware/stoneware body. The top rim is finished with a deep cobalt line, and the side features a distinctive, stylized faceted handle that is highly characteristic of late 19th-century craftsmanship.
The base is completely un-marked/un-signed, as was standard for utilitarian household stoneware of this era.
CONDITION DETAILS (Please Review Carefully):
This pitcher has been loved and used historically, showing authentic character and honest wear:
1. Notable Chip: There is a clear chip right on the edge of the pouring lip/spout exposing the unglazed clay underneath (clearly documented in the photos).
2. Crazing & Aging: The piece exhibits extensive, fine surface glaze crazing, particularly visible on the underside base. There are also minor manufacturing irregularities in the glaze skip and baseline wear consistent with its great age.
3. No major structural cracks down the main body.
This remains an excellent display piece for a farmhouse kitchen, open shelving, or a collector who loves the rustic, weathered charm of genuine antique utility pottery.
