This is an antique deck of playing cards manufactured by the Samuel Hart & Company starting in 1885. This deck was produced not long after Samuel Hart and Co. had merged with other companies to create the New York Consolidated Card Company, yet they retained the Hart name on their decks for many years after the merger. This is one of the last decks made without indices in the corners of each card. The deck also has one way court cards specifically designed for playing the highly popular card game known as faro or pharo, played in saloons all over the West in the post-Civil War period through to the turn of the century.
The cards are in excellent condition with the exception of the Ace of Spades which has what appears to be sun damage staining on the face of the card. There appears to be a slight ink line running along the edge of the right side of A of S that was likely from production.
All other cards are in excellent condition.
