Antique Richard Wagner Portrait Photograph – Germany, 19th Century
An antique photographic portrait of the German composer Richard Wagner (1813–1883).
This historic photograph is believed to date from approximately the 1860s, during the period associated with Wagner’s time in Munich.
The reverse of the mount bears an old handwritten notation including “1865 München”, as well as a later handwritten inscription apparently dated Christmas 1898 (“Weihnachten 1898”).
The photograph appears consistent with a 19th-century albumen photographic print mounted on card. However, the photographer’s studio mark is not visible, and therefore the photographer and exact date of printing cannot be definitively confirmed.

Provenance
According to the previous owner, this photograph was acquired approximately 40 years ago from a specialist antique photography dealer in Vienna, Austria.
Condition
Antique condition with age-related fading, discoloration, surface wear and wear to the edges and corners of the mount.
There are handwritten inscriptions on the reverse.
Considering its considerable age, the portrait image remains clearly visible.
