He sits sideways and leans on the back of an ornate Victorian wicker chair with turned spindles, beaded rails and scrolled curlicue legs. He holds a slim pencil or pointer, and a pen or pencil is clipped to his lapel. Behind him is a painted studio backdrop of soft clouds and heavy draped curtains, with a patterned rug underfoot.
