Fascinating early antique postcard depicting a Christian mission church complex in China, dramatically situated beneath a tall multi-story Chinese pagoda.The handwritten message on the front identifies the scene:“This is a picture of the Church for Chinese Children and is known as a Pagoda or ‘Joss’ House. Only the good children reach the top.”The card offers an unusual glimpse into the Christian missionary movement in China during the late 19th/early 20th century, when American and European missionary organizations established churches, schools and other institutions throughout the country.
