Antique Perkins \"Fat Boy\" Lamp Socket Part

Genuine Early Electric Turn-Key Paddle Switch — Patented June 13, 1899

Overview

For sale is a premium example of an authentic, late 19th-century antique Perkins hardware component. Known to collectors and historians as the \"Fat Boy\" profile due to its iconic stepped architectural shell design, this early piece features a deep copper/bronze surface finish and a distinct black rectangular paddle switch mechanism.

The side sleeve casing features a crisp, stamped manufacturer mark detailing the original historical patent record from the turn of the century. This product is completely free of major pitting or corrosive green buildup.

Please carefully evaluate the physical cosmetic condition from the six high-resolution photographs provided. You will receive the exact individual item pictured.

Provenance & Trade History

This item was originally acquired by my late father during his extensive, 40-year career in the electrical trades. As a proud journeyman electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 48 union out of Portland, Oregon, and a subsequent City Electrical Inspector, he maintained a deep professional appreciation and respect for early 20th-century industrial manufacturing designs and styles.

He historically collected this piece, and there it sat for approximately four decades, safely preserved on a display shelf in his home den room alongside other notable early electrical industry relics. Having recently recovered it while organizing his estate, I am offering it to a fellow trade historian, vintage restorer, or enthusiast looking for a completely authentic piece of hardware history.

Condition Report

The component is in exceptionally clean antique storage condition. The casing shows smooth, authentic surface coloration with minimal scattered age scuffs and minor handling abrasions consistent with shelf display. The Edison screw threads are straight and clear. Internally, the critical fiber insulation liner is structurally sound, whole, and flush along the rim with no heat deterioration or tearing. The paddle switch rotates freely with solid mechanical tension. I have every reason to strongly believe that it would still \"work\" as intended by the original manufacturer, although I have not personally tested it as such.
