From a Maine estate collection.Beautiful and authentic Native American hand made ash splint lidded storage basket. Upright vase form. Swollen vase form with constricted neck. Penobscot, Passamaqouddy, Mi\'kmaq, or other tribe of the Wabanaki Confederacy.Originally dyed ash splints, now substantially faded from age, with surviving green/blue-green coloration most apparent on the base and interior.. Decorated with ribbon curlicues and ash splint ring handles (one partly missing). Original close-fitting lidapparently constructed without a lid finial or knob, as evinced by the uniform fading in the center of it, with no evidence of wear.
CONDITION
Overall very good. Has some scattered broken ribbons, two decorative ring handle, one partly remaining.Structurally sound. Rich, dry brown age patina, faded to natural brown, with some polychrome vegetable dye color remaining on the base and interior (all visible in the images). A large and impressive Native American basket vase ready for display.
