This is a fantastic piece of late 19th century American hardware, and authentic antique mechanical level press manufactured by Peck. Stow and Wilcox. It has the manufacturers stamp cast right into the metal arm. They served as a multi purpose in the victorian era. They were used as an apothecary cork compressor in pharmacies to shape bottle stoppers and as a heavy duty household countertop nutcracker.
The lever arm moves smoothly and original internal heavy coil spring is fully intact. It mounts on its original solid wood plank base.
