Antique Imperial German portrait plaque depicting the famous German statesman Otto von Bismarck (1815–1898), the architect of German unification and the first Chancellor of the German Empire.
The portrait is executed in finely detailed repoussé metal relief, a technique in which a thin sheet of metal is pressed from the reverse to create sculptural depth and detail. The strong profile, distinctive beard and high military collar correspond to the classic late-19th century portrait type widely used in medals and commemorative art following Bismarck’s death.
The plaque retains its original black period frame and the reverse still bears the factory wax seal reading:

This respected Stuttgart firm specialized in medallic art, commemorative plaques and decorative metalwork during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Originally the relief appears to have been silver plated, with remnants of the finish still visible in recessed areas.
Such plaques were produced around the turn of the century for display in homes, schools and civic institutions during the height of the Bismarck cult in Imperial Germany.
