It is hard to find an authentic New England Family Memorial Schoolgirl Sampler with artwork and text. The bottom of this 228 year old Antique memorializes \"Dolly Flynn, died APril 13th 1798 aged 38 years\". Most likely an ancestor of the Flynn Family appearing heavily in geneological records in Woodstock, Windham County, Connecticut from 1760. Local vital records from the region note families with the Flynn name settling along the Massachusetts and Connecticut border in the late Colonial Period.
Fashioned of Natural Muslin and dyed Wool thread this now delicate work is safely behind non glare glass in a sturdy old walnut frame. Some of the sampler letters and numbers have completely lost pigment. Much of the pigment in the artwork remains and the threads making up the date and name are vivid.
I have not examined this piece out of the frame, the mounting and backing are not confirmed to be preservation quality and should be closely scrutinized by the new owner. Heartbroken to part with this piece...
