Antique McCormick hand-crank sickle bar knife grinder marked “McCormick Chicago” on the cast-iron frame. This early farm implement was designed to sharpen the triangular knife sections used on horse-drawn mowers, reapers, and other sickle-bar equipment.
The grinder features a heavy cast-iron frame, exposed gear-driven mechanism, shaped grinding stone, original hand crank, wooden handle, and built-in clamp for mounting it to a bench or work surface. The open gear arrangement gives it an excellent early industrial and agricultural appearance.
Based on the McCormick Chicago marking and overall design, this grinder likely dates from approximately the late 1890s through the early 1900s, before or around the formation of International Harvester in 1902.
A desirable antique farm tool for collectors of early agricultural equipment, McCormick machinery, primitive tools, cast-iron implements, or industrial décor.

CONDITION
Antique used condition with accumulated dirt, dust, old grease residue, surface oxidation, and general wear consistent with age and agricultural use. The cast iron and visible gear teeth appear reasonably well preserved. The wooden crank handle shows age-related wear, checking, and finish loss.
The grinder has not been cleaned or restored and retains its naturally aged appearance. Mechanical operation is smooth and all of the gears turn freely. Please examine the photos closely for the exact condition, components included, and completeness.
