Framed English needlework sampler worked by Maria Oliver, with the stitched inscription \'Maria Oliver, Droxford School\' and a verse beginning \'Let me e\'er Death his icy hand upon my body lay\'.
Multicolor wool or silk cross-stitch on linen: birds, potted flowers, baskets, small figures and a floral border, with a pink zigzag border around the name panel.
A typed paper label on the back dated 2013 gives a family history for Maria Oliver (born Droxford, England, 1840) and credits the mounting and framing to a family descendant; a handwritten date of 1853 appears beside the verse. The date and attribution are per that label and have not been independently verified.
Dark wood frame with beaded inner trim, linen mat and glass, with paper dust cover and tape on the back.
