Antique Mabie Todd Blackbird Fountpen WWI Made in USA Eyedropper 14K Flex Nib
A scarce early Mabie Todd Blackbird “Fountpen” eyedropper fountain pen, made in the USA during the First World War period. The original barrel imprint reads:
“Blackbird Fountpen Made in USA During War M.T. & Co New York, USA”
A very appealing wartime Blackbird with original engravings, attractive chevron decoration, and a lively, expressive 14K gold nib.
Condition
The pen is in generally good vintage condition, with signs of age and use throughout. I have endeavoured to demonstrate the cosmetic condition accurately in the photographs, so please examine all images carefully as they form an important part of the description.
The chevron patterning remains in very good condition and presents particularly well. The original barrel engravings and inscriptions remain legible, clear, and well presented.
Nib & Writing
Fitted with its original 14K gold nib and feed, both of which are in great condition.
The pen has been dip tested and writes very wetly. The nib has enjoyable, responsive flex, giving pleasing line variation and character in use. Please refer to the writing sample photographs for its performance.
Filling System
Eyedropper filler. The barrel unscrews for filling directly with fountain-pen ink. Please ensure the pen is correctly sealed before filling, as is normal for vintage eyedropper pens.
