Antique late 19th century M1881 pattern infantry dress helmet featuring original spike finial, crossed rifles infantry insignia buttons, brass ventilator, and cloth-covered cork construction. This helmet is believed to date to approximately 1885-1900 and appears to be either a U.S. Army M1881 pattern example or a state militia/National Guard variant of the period.
The helmet retains its original spike, oak leaf spike base, infantry crossed-rifles side buttons, brass ventilation assembly, and cloth-covered shell. Interior exhibits significant age-related wear and deterioration consistent with its age.
