Condition: excellent!

This rare Hirado porcelain figure, with its crackled creamy white ground, is a striking representation of the 18th-century Arts and Sciences Daimyo Matsura Kiyoshi (Seizan) 松浦 静山. The young master is solemnly seated, holding a fan, in a sinuously and meticulously hand-sculpted statue. His face is deftly modeled in realism, with eyes gazing downward in a meditative stance, his lips pressed together, and he exudes a venerable and robust commanding appearance. The figure's sharp-edged symmetric kimono rendered in a round adds to its dynamic visual appeal.

The Lord of Hirado, Seizan, was born in Edo in the Hirado domain as the oldest son of Matsura Masanobu (1735–1771). Seizan became the heir Lord of Hirado at the age of sixteen. He applied himself seriously to his official duties, encouraging farming and fishing in his domain. He also realized the importance of education and founded the Ishinkan, a school promoting both academic and financial reforms.
