Original antique illustrated advertising mailing envelope (postal cover) from the Ithaca Gun Company, Ithaca, New York. This is original paper ephemera - it is not a firearm or a firearm part.
This oversize catalog mailer, approx. 13.5 x 8.5 inches, is printed in black and orange on tan paper. The design shows a setter dog's head at the left, a covey of bobwhite quail along the bottom, and large orange "Ithaca Gu..." lettering (the right portion is torn away, so part of "Guns" is lost). Printed text at the lower right reads in part "NOTICE - IF UNCALLED [FOR] AND WE WILL SEND STAM..." and "ITHACA GUN COMPANY, ITHACA, [N.Y.]".
Dating: circa 1917-1919. This date is inferred from the violet 3-cent Washington stamp and the World War I-era 3-cent first-class postage rate period. There is no legible postmark, so no exact year can be given.
Addressing and provenance: This envelope is addressed to Joseph Edw. Koliha of Schuyler, Nebraska; it comes from the same Schuyler family's papers as a c.1914 Ithaca catalog inscribed to Frank Koliha, which is offered separately - this listing is for the ENVELOPE ONLY, no contents. The addressee name and town are typewritten on the envelope as "Joseph Edw. Koliha / Schuyler, Nebr."
Stamp: violet 3-cent Washington stamp, partial cancellation, at the top right.
Condition - please read carefully and review all photos: The right portion of the envelope is torn away, with loss to the printed design and text. The top-right corner is torn and creased, with paper loss around the stamp. There is a vertical center crease/fold, small tears and chips along the bottom edge, and overall toning.
Included: the envelope only, in a modern clear protective sleeve with a blue backing board, as photographed. It will ship flat and rigid, protected between boards.
