Antique Honey Moon Tobacco Box Penn Tobacco Co Wilkes-Barre PA Tax Stamps c1910s
Description:
Up for sale is an original antique Honey Moon Smoking Tobacco empty cardboard pack from the Penn Tobacco Co., Wilkes-Barre, PA. The pack dates to the early 20th century, likely the 1910s based on the revenue stamps.
( I had to remove the sealed contents to comply with ’s policy but it protected this box well over the years )
Front: Classic graphic of a gentleman in a white suit reclining on a crescent moon and smoking a pipe. A woman's face appears in the smoke against a starry blue sky. "HONEY MOON TOBACCO" is printed in bold yellow lettering.
Back: "Honey Moon – For Pipe or Cigarette – Double Cut Smoking Tobacco – Will Not Bite the Tongue," with a pipe and cigarette graphic.
Stamps and labels:
• U.S. Internal Revenue tobacco stamp, 1¼ ounces, "Series of 1910"
• U.S. Internal Revenue stamp, "Act of August 5, 1909," One and One Quarter ounce, Bureau of Engraving and Printing
• Portrait "Tax Paid" 1¼ ounce stamp
• Tobacco Workers International Union "Union Made" label
• Side panel reads "Factory No. 36, 12th Dist. of Penna," with the original government notice against reusing the package
Condition: Shows honest age and wear consistent with a pack over 100 years old:
• Edge and corner wear
• Paper loss at the bottom of one side panel
• Small chip on the lower left front
• Some rubbing on the back panel
The colors are still strong, and the stamps are intact. Please see all photos, as they are part of the description.
This is an empty box only. It contains no tobacco. It's a great piece for tobacciana, advertising, Pennsylvania history, or revenue stamp collectors.
Ships carefully packed. Please message me with any questions.
Before you list it, check whether there's anything inside. doesn't allow tobacco sales, so if any tobacco is still in the pack, remove it so the "empty" statement is accurate. If the two fronts belong to two separate boxes rather than one box's front and back, let me know and I'll rewrite it as a lot of two.
