Antique Hand-Painted Toleware Tray (ca 19th century) For Sale

This style of hand-painted metal work is known as toleware. Derived from the French phrase tole peinte (meaning \"painted sheet iron\"). Toleware refers to useful household items crafted from tin or thin iron plates that were lacquered, stenciled or hand-painted. This specific item resembles pieces made during the Victorian era. This style of tray was highly popular in England, France and New England. Smaller trays were designed for delicate parlor tasks like card trays, snack trays or as a trinket tray. This beautiful tray is in very good antique condition with no damage to the hand painting. It measures 11 1/2 inches wide and is 7 inches tall.
