Beautiful 19th-century jacquard-woven coverlet attributed to Henry F. Stager and Sons of Mount Joy, Lancaster County Pennsylvania. The red and cream woven design features large eagles, birds, flowers, grapevines and an elaborate geometric borders. The three edges have its original fringe. The fringe at the bottom under the manufacturers name has thinned over time. There are some signs of wear, discoloration, and some thinning of the wool in small areas consistent with age. Note, there are no holes. Please look photos over carefully for I use them as part of my description. This is an original period piece, and not a reproduction. This is a one-of-a-kind piece and would make an excellent addition to multiple collections. From coverlets, early American, Victorian to textile collections as well as others.
Stager coverlets are recognized examples of Pennsylvania's 19th-century weaving tradition, with museum examples dating from 1855 to 1870.
