Antique glass and silver-colored metal covered butter dish accompanied by original Brimfield family estate provenance.
This piece was acquired from a Hammonton, New Jersey estate containing additional material associated with multiple generations of the Brimfield/Watt family.
Included with the butter dish is the original handwritten family note identifying it as:
“Silver Butter dish
Ella and William
Brimfield
June 3 1908
Wedding gift”
Independent family records corroborate the broader provenance. Elizabeth Brimfield Watt was the daughter of William and Ella (Russell) Brimfield and grew up in Hammonton, New Jersey.
The butter dish features a clear pressed-glass rectangular base with a raised beaded/bubble-style border and a removable silver-colored metal covered compartment with center finial.
No maker, sterling, silverplate or other metal-content markings were found. The metal has not been professionally tested, and no claim is being made that it is sterling silver. The family\'s handwritten note refers to it simply as a “Silver Butter dish.”
The June 3, 1908 wedding-gift attribution comes from the accompanying original family note. The exact manufacturer and manufacturing date of the physical butter dish have not been independently established.
The original handwritten provenance note shown in the photographs is included with the butter dish.
Pre-owned estate condition with age-related wear to the glass and metal. The metal shows surface wear, scratches, marks, discoloration/tarnish and finish wear consistent with age and storage. Glass shows normal surface and shelf wear. Please review all photographs carefully for exact condition.
