Antique French Gien Faience Scroll / Cylinder Vase — Jacques Callot \"Les Gueux\" Series

Up for consideration is a beautiful, highly collectible late-19th-century French faience earthenware roll vase manufactured by the historic Faïencerie de Gien.

This 12-inch tall piece features a finely detailed, rotating hand-painted scene depicting three individual characters directly inspired by Les Gueux (The Beggars / The Mendiants), the celebrated 17th-century etching series by artist Jacques Callot. The figures are beautifully set against a softly blended cloudy background, framed on the top rim and bottom base by classical Italian Renaissance style gold scrollwork borders over a black background.

The underside displays the distinct underglaze red Gien castle/fortress hallmark used by the factory during the 1870s and 1880s, alongside hand-painted inventory and artist marks.
