Wonderful antique/vintage Gettysburg souvenir brooch featuring the Gen. Meade Monument at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
This large silver-tone metal pin measures approximately 3" wide × 2" high and features an ornate pierced floral border surrounding a raised central medallion depicting the equestrian monument to Major General George G. Meade, commander of the Union Army of the Potomac at the Battle of Gettysburg. The front is marked “GEN. MEADE MONUMENT” and “GETTYSBURG, PA.”
The reverse has an early-style long pin and simple catch. No maker or metal-content marks were found, so the metal is being described as silver-tone rather than sterling.
An unusual piece of early Gettysburg souvenir memorabilia and a wonderful collectible for those interested in the Civil War, Battle of Gettysburg, General George Meade, battlefield souvenirs, or historical Americana.
