Offered - Interesting antique lithograph on pine plank with a hand-decorated border. The image is an obverse lithograph after Gilbert Stewart's "Washington and his Horse". The paper lithograph was likely sold and soon there after attached to the board. The gold and blue border around the lithograph is hand-painted and the stars appear to be individually hand-cut and pasted over the top of the blue paint.
The rear of the board shows a less oxidized portion directly down the center, likely where a pole once held the board in place. This artwork may have been carried in a parade or displayed somewhere during the United States Centennial era.
The board is signed inside the lithograph W.A.??. It appears that the signature is the same paint as the blue border and not part of the lithograph itself, likely the person that added the border art.
Age - ca. 1870s
Condition - The lithograph shows chips and loss in some places with the worst of it being at the top left where a not so great repair was attempted. The hand laid stars show loss and some have fallen off entirely. The board is somewhat warped. The hanging wire and fasteners are modern.
Measurements - The outer dimensions of the board measures 18" x 25 3/4".
