Antique 19th-century stereoview photograph identified in period handwriting on the reverse as “Elmira Water Cure.”
The image shows a large group of men and women posed outside an ivy-covered building or pavilion, apparently associated with the Elmira, New York water-cure establishment. Numerous individuals are clearly visible, making this a particularly interesting early local social and institutional photograph.
The stereoview mount has decorative printing along the sides. Reverse is otherwise largely blank aside from the handwritten “Elmira Water Cure” identification.
An unusual piece of early Elmira and Chemung County, New York history, with additional interest for collectors of early medical history, hydropathy/water-cure institutions, stereoview photography and regional New York memorabilia.
Condition: Antique condition with expected age toning, scattered staining/soiling, edge and corner wear and general handling wear. Image remains quite detailed, with the assembled group and building clearly visible. Currently housed in a protective sleeve. Please review photographs carefully for condition.
