Elegant Pale Celadon Jade Standing Guanyin
A serene standing figure of Guanyin, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, carved from pale celadon green jade and presented on a fitted dark hardwood stand. The deity is shown with a tranquil, downcast gaze and gently modeled features, framed by a luminous oval aureole. Flowing robes cascade in soft, deeply carved folds, while one hand cradles a rounded vessel and the other holds a gracefully curved ribbon. The stone displays a soft, luminous polish with subtle natural inclusions that enhance its quiet beauty.
Guanyin, “She Who Hears the Cries of the World,” has long been revered as a symbol of mercy, protection, and boundless kindness. This traditional depiction captures her characteristic grace and calm presence, making it both a devotional object and a refined decorative sculpture.
The carving is consistent with late Qing to early Republic period workshop production and is offered in overall good condition with the wooden stand. An attractive and culturally resonant piece for collectors of Chinese jade, Buddhist art, or Asian decorative sculpture.
Height approximately 7–10 inches overall (including stand). Piece was purchased from renowned Akiba Galleries and sold as Qing Jade; I have not had independent Jade appraisal. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.
