A rare and ingenious piece of early 20th-century grooming history. This antique gentleman’s traveling shaving stand / vanity box is crafted from rich, translucent faux tortoiseshell celluloid with a classic striated dark amber pattern.
The circular beveled mirror is mounted on an articulated metal wire easel with a bracket hinge, allowing it to tilt upright for hands-free use at a dresser or washstand, or fold completely flat for travel. The base features an integrated threaded well originally designed to house a shaving soap puck, powdered talc, or a small shaving cream cup (or useful today as a ring/cufflink tray or trinket well).
