Beautiful set of five antique Doulton Burslem cabinet plates dating to the late Victorian / early Edwardian period, circa 1895–1910. Each plate features a finely hand-painted bird scene with a different subject, set against a soft atmospheric background and framed by an elegant celadon green border with raised gilt floral decoration.
These plates were retailed by the prestigious Philadelphia firm J.E. Caldwell & Co. and retain their original Doulton Burslem England backstamps. The bird scenes appear artist-signed and exhibit the high-quality hand decoration associated with Doulton’s decorative wares of the period. Each plate features a hand-painted bird scene signed ‘Hancock’ by the decorating artist.
A wonderful display set for collectors of antique Doulton, hand-painted porcelain, bird art, or fine English cabinet plates.
