Antique Dante Alighieri Bronzed Metal Relief Plaque Italian Portrait 4.75\" For Sale

The raised bust is hollow on the reverse, which is part of the plaque’s cast construction rather than damage. Based on its materials, construction, and styling, I believe it most likely dates from the late 19th to early 20th century, approximately 1880–1920.

Similar examples have been attributed to Signorini Innocenti of Florence, Italy. However, I cannot locate a readable maker’s mark on this particular plaque. It is therefore being offered as an unsigned piece without a definitive maker attribution.

The plaque has age-related surface wear, scratches, scuffs, oxidation, and patina throughout, although it still displays beautifully. The original hanging hook is no longer present. A later hook was once attached to the back and some old masking-tape remnants remain, accounting for the lighter and white areas visible on the reverse. New hanging hardware or another mounting method will be needed before display.
