Antique Czech Gilt Reverse Glass Painted Portrait Rosary Box CzechoslovakiaThis is an Antique rosary box from CZECHOSLOVAKIA found with rosary inside.
The crucifix on the amber color rosary beads is marked ITALY. It is unknown whether the rosary is as old as the box.
The rosary box is a rectangle octagon. It is filigree, antiqued gold-tone, hinged, with a snap closure. There is a reverse painted, clear glass cabochon on top. The cabochon is set firmly into place with 4 metal prongs. A likeness of Virgin Mary is painted on the underside of the cabochon. There are 4 green glass rhinestones surrounding the painted cabochon, 1 in each corner of the rosary box. The green glass rhinestones are each set firmly into place with 4 metal prongs. The box measures about 1.75" x 1.25" x 5/16" deep.
The painting of the Virgin Mary is colorful and clearly visible; but there is some scuffing on top of the cabochon, not surprising, given its age. There are photographs of this. Overall, the rosary box is in very good antique condition. The lid moved freely along the hinges and snaps firmly closed.
The rosary measures about 12" one side with a 3" drop from heart to bottom of crucifix. The beads are barrel/oval shaped.
Several photographs serve as the best description on this rosary box and rosary. If additional photographs are needed, please message me.
