Based on visual examination and stylistic analysis this hand carved Chinese wood sculpture is consistent with production from the Late Qing Dynasty to Early Republic period circa 1890–1930. The carving exhibits traditional scholar symbolism deep hand carved relief and age appropriate patina consistent with early 20th century Chinese woodwork. No evidence of modern machine carving is observed.
