Beautiful antique Chinese cloisonné enamel footed box, likely dating to the Republic period, circa 1910s–1930s.
This is an especially decorative example, featuring a warm ivory-white enamel ground covered almost completely with individually formed spiral wirework. Colorful flowering branches in cobalt blue, turquoise, yellow, red, pink and green extend across the domed lid, with finely detailed wirework forming the petals, buds and distinctive starburst flower centers.
What makes this piece particularly striking is the extent of the cloisonné work. The spiral pattern continues around the sides, both rounded ends and even across the underside—areas that would normally receive little attention. Substantial brass borders, a long multi-knuckle hinge, shaped front latch and four rounded brass feet complete the box.
The hinged lid opens to reveal a rich turquoise-blue enameled interior divided into two compartments by a brass partition.
