An exceptional and rare, three-piece antique late-19th or early 20th-century German hard-paste porcelain covered broth bowl (écuelle or small tureen) complete with its original lid and matching underplate - Capodimonte Revival style.
The entire set features complex high-relief molded decorations, hand-painted in vibrant polychrome enamels, featuring classical Greco-Roman mythological and allegorical figures.
The lid is adorned with an elegant, hand-modeled gilded seashell finial, while the bowl features two sturdy, coral-orange loop handles. When the tureen is lifted, the center of the underplate reveals a white center adorned with a beautifully hand-painted floral gilded scrollwork
It is marked with the blue Crown N mark (the original mark was used by the Capodimonte factory) however, after the factory was closed in 19thC the mark was used by various porcelain makers throughout Europe. This particular mark I think could be attributed to Carl Thieme Potschappel or Ernst Boone. Also the crown N is similar in style to the Crown N mark used by Carl Thieme or Ernst Bohne Söhne.
Condition: good overall antique condition - no large chips, hairlines or repairs noted, no crazing. Some wear to gilt, age related, wear to decorations. Some blemishes on the underside and minor rough areas on the handle and rims. Use related scratches and marks. Production related imperfections.
Measures: under-plate approximately 7 1/8”; bowl 6.5” handle to handle and 5” across the rim. Approximately 4.25” H
