Antique Brass Steam Locomotive Bell – 35 Pounds – Unique History and Custom Mount
This is an original brass bell from the era of steam locomotives, and it has a personal history that makes it especially meaningful to me.
Before anyone questions its authenticity, let me explain. My father was in the scrap business, and on Saturdays, my friends and I would spend time playing around these old steam engines. Over the years, my father scrapped approximately a dozen steam locomotives.
At one time, we had about 10 of these bells. This is the last one I have.
I had it mounted at my home for many years, but after moving, I simply no longer have a suitable place for it. It is time for it to find a new home with someone who appreciates railroad history and the character of an authentic piece from the steam locomotive era.
Bell Details:
The Mounting Bracket Has Its Own Story
The mounting bracket shown in the photographs was made by my father at his scrap yard. That makes it a special part of this piece\'s history.
The bracket is tapered and slides directly over the nipple on top of the bell. It weighs approximately 10 pounds and has four predrilled holes in the backplate, giving the new owner flexibility in choosing how and where to mount it.
Beautiful Brass Finish
I recently took the bell to a metal shop, where it was professionally cleaned and polished, restoring the beautiful golden appearance of the brass.
This is a substantial piece with a great deal of history behind it. Whether you are a railroad enthusiast, a collector of steam locomotive memorabilia, or simply someone looking for a distinctive conversation piece for your home, office, or workshop, this bell has a story that goes beyond its appearance.
After keeping it for many years, I hope it finds a new owner who will appreciate it as much as my family has.
