Up for sale is a beautiful, authentic antique sand-cast bronze (or heavy brass) decorative desk paperweight or relief plaque. This piece features a stunning Neoclassical allegorical depiction of a winged Cupid (Amor) riding and taming a lion, a famous motif modeled after the 19th-century sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen ("Love Conquers All").
Design & Craftsmanship:
The front showcases excellent crisp detailing on the figures, set against a beautifully executed hand-hammered / stippled Arts & Crafts period background frame. The reverse features a classic, rugged sand-cast hollow back and is clearly hand-stamped with the foundry production catalog number "102" in the bottom corner.
Condition & Patina:
This piece is in excellent antique condition and is 100% non-magnetic. Crucially, it retains its gorgeous, untouched original dark living patina with natural traces of verdigris oxidation settled deep inside the crevices. It has never been chemically cleaned or polished, preserving its full historical integrity and collector value.
Dimensions & Weight:
• Measurements: 2 1/8” x 2 1/8” x 1/2” thick
• Weight: 3.565 oz (Feels very dense and substantial in hand)
