Antique 1920s B&O Railroad Capitol China 3-Pc Lot - Near Unused Shenango
Up for sale is a beautiful, authentic 3-piece lot of antique Baltimore & Ohio (B&O) Railroad dining car china in the highly collectible "Capitol" pattern. Manufactured in the 1920s by the renowned Shenango China company of New Castle, Pennsylvania, this set was produced for the flagship premier passenger train, the Capitol Limited, which launched in 1923. This historic lot includes one teacup saucer and two matching small bowls, all featuring the iconic stylized gold B&O monogram crest framed inside an intricate gold-gilded cartouche, set against a striking dark geometric border.
Lot Details & Backstamps: • 1 Teacup Saucer: Features the rare, early-generation green contract distributor backstamp: "Shenango China, New Castle, PA. Made for Dulin & Martin Co. Inc., Washington, D.C." • 2 Small Bowls: Both feature the early condensed, red-brown arched text-only factory stamp: "Shenango New Castle, PA China."
Condition Report: All three pieces are in overall excellent antique condition and have been remarkably well-preserved. • Bowls: Exceptional, near-pristine condition ( PLEASE SEE PHOTOGRAPH WHERE PIN POINTS TO SMALL DOT OF BLUE IN BERRY BOWL) . Both bowls appear unused. The gold monograms and rim trim are stunningly bright, crisp, and vibrant with absolutely no fading. There are no visible utensil marks, chips, cracks, crazing, or damage of any kind. • Teacup Saucer: Excellent condition, retaining bright gold gilding and sharp contrast. The face shows only very light, minor surface utensil markings consistent with careful handling over the decades, with no chips, cracks, or structural flaws.
