đź“ś Authentic stock certificate from the Titanic era
This original International Mercantile Marine Company stock certificate dates to the 1910s–1920s, the period associated with the Titanic era. The International Mercantile Marine Company was the parent organization of the White Star Line, owner of the RMS Titanic.
🏦 J.P. Morgan & the International Mercantile Marine Company
International Mercantile Marine was formed under the financial leadership of J.P. Morgan, one of the most influential figures in American banking history. Morgan’s vision was to consolidate major transatlantic shipping lines into a single corporate trust, shaping global maritime commerce during the early decades of the 20th century.
While this strategy initially brought immense scale and influence, it also exposed the company to economic pressures and public scrutiny. Surviving stock certificates from International Mercantile Marine stand today as tangible reminders of this ambitious era of American finance, industry, and global transportation.
🏛️ Early 20th‑Century Financial History
These certificates were originally issued to investors during the 1910s–1920s and later cancelled as part of standard corporate and banking practice. Today, they are preserved as historical documents representing the intersection of maritime history, corporate finance, and the world surrounding the Titanic.
Original cancellation punches and archival hole punches may be present. All cancellation marks are original to the document and reflect routine record‑keeping of the period. These turn up in three cancellation styles - no JPM punch, the JPM initials perforated at the top, or at the bottom - and the style this listing sells is the one named in its title. Dealers say JPM stands for J.P. Morgan & Co., the banking house that organized the IMM in 1902.
