This is an original period advertisement for Murad “The Turkish Cigarette,” produced for S. Anargyros Corporation. With its large turquoise typography, bright orange field and overlapping geometric circles, the design has strong visual presence beyond its original advertising purpose. It works equally well as early tobacco advertising, collectible ephemera, tobacciana or vintage graphic wall art.
The advertisement features Murad’s period promotional copy and distinctive branding. The reverse adds another interesting piece of period history: a Leslie-Judge Co., 225 Fifth Avenue, New York advertisement offering illustrated pictures by mail, complete with small sample illustrations, prices and an order coupon. Photographs of the reverse are included in the listing. This ad is partially mounted on poster board and this was as far as could lift up to scan the reverse.
Ad dates to around the 1910s.
10 x 14 in size, 11 x 18 with poster board.
Is in very good shape for age, slight age staining along edges. Will not deter in displaying. Found in plastic sleeve which removed for scanning but will be shipped with it. Poster board does have some corner creases.
