Wonderful survivor from California's early silk-manufacturing industry.

Carlson-Currier was an important early California silk manufacturer, operating its large silk mill inPetaluma, California, with its business offices in San Francisco. The historic Petaluma mill operated under the Carlson-Currier name until the company's transition to Belding ownership around 1917. Carlson Currier Knitting Silk was advertised by name as early as 1902.
Based on the spool style and company history, I believe this example dates approximately1907–1917.
Retains a substantial amount of its originaldark olive/forest green silk thread, Shade 229. An old secondary thread has been tied through the center and around the spool, apparently to keep the loose silk secured. Left exactly as found.
Shows expected age, wear and loose/tangled thread. Both printed wooden ends remain quite legible.
A neat little piece ofearly California textile and industrial historyas well as an antique sewing, knitting and crochet collectible.
